water chestnut pull
8:00am - 11:00am +
Join Saratoga PLAN, Kayak Shak and Capital-Mohawk PRISM for the annual water chestnut pull kick-off event!
Slather on some sunscreen, grab a paddle, and get out on the water to help pull water chestnuts before they go to seed. Water Chestnut is an aquatic invasive plant that forms dense, floating mats that clog waterways and negatively impact and alter aquatic habitats.
This event is BYOBoat: kayaks, canoes, SUPs, rowboats, as well as waders, protective gloves, buckets and PFDs. Don’t have gear? Have no fear! Boats, paddles and PFDs will be provided free of charge by the Kayak Shak.
Board member and event organizer, Lorraine Skibo says, “We may never win the war with the aquatic non native invasive plants in Fish Creek, but limiting spread as much as reasonably possible will preserve biodiversity, fish and wildlife habitat, and size and quality of the waterway, protecting native species, and human domestic, recreational, and commercial use.”
Pre-registration is required for this event.
