barkersville trails opening

November 28, 2020
All Day 2

The original ribbon cutting event has been canceled, but Barkersville Trails are still opening to the public Thanksgiving weekend.

The pandemic surge has caused Saratoga PLAN to cancel the ribbon-cutting celebration for the Barkersville Trails originally scheduled for November 28th. We think it prudent not to endanger anyone’s well-being by gathering for a celebration, especially for a non-essential activity of something that supports public health!

However, the trails will still open to the public for the Thanksgiving weekend for people to enjoy visiting on their own and walking off that extra slice of pie.

After years of dedicated work, strong community support and the brain and brawn of volunteers, we are excited to finally share with you the wonderfully wooded and winding Barkersville Trails in the towns of Galway and Providence.

Don your mask as you pass others. Wear blaze orange. Hunting season is in progress.

As always, we’d love to “tag” along – share your photos with us via email, or tag us on social media (@saratogaplan)

  1. Jacqueline Donnelly

Congratulations! I recall exploring with Maria Trabka and Ed Miller and the folks who donated this limestone underlaid land on a spring day a couple of years ago when hundreds of the wildflower called Squirrel Corn was blooming in the woods. I am SO looking forward to visiting this remarkable habitat again. I hope to join you on November 28.

Jackie, if you plan to join us, which we hope you will, please register using the link above. We also think you may be recalling your walk along Glowegee Creek. That trail is not yet open – but hopefully will be soon!
