Presently, Railroad Run connects
West Circular Street to Congress Avenue along a north-south
former rail bed to the west of the Price Chopper Plaza
on Route 50. This half mile dual-trail (one side is stone
dust, the other side is asphalt) is enjoyed by people of
all ages for a wide range of activities including walking,
bicycling, roller blading, and skate boarding.
PROJECT UPDATE
Railroad Run recently received 300 tree seedlings thanks
to the National Tree Trust. The seedlings were planted
as part of the annual spring clean up and beautification
carried out by Saratoga P.L.A.N. and the Department of
Public Works. Local Brownie Troops, school children,
and families helped ready the trail for spring and future
generations. Notice the little seedlings as you use the
trail and watch them grow over the years!
Saratoga P.L.A.N. secured a $100,000 grant in 2002 to
extend the trail south, cross Route 50, and enter Saratoga
Spa State Park. From there, the trail will follow the
county sewer right-of-way and connect to the Saratoga
Heritage Trail Network, including the Zim Smith Trail
in Malta.
The extension is currently in the planning phase under
a partnership of the YMCA, Saratoga Spa State Park, City
of Saratoga Springs, and the State of New York.
